The Society of American Florists hosted 140 early-career professionals at its Next Gen LIVE conference in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The event brought together growers, wholesalers, retailers and suppliers for education sessions, networking and a design competition focused on building industry connections.

Attendees toured facilities at North Carolina State University, where research on post-harvest handling, cold storage and flower longevity was highlighted. These areas are critical for greenhouse growers and supply chain efficiency.

Colton Thomas of Norton’s Florist said the event expanded his understanding of the industry.

“I always knew the floral industry was big,” he said. “But I never really grasped how big it was until being here and meeting people from all over the country.”

Sessions covered communication, leadership, sales strategy and operational decision-making, including pricing, staffing and sourcing.

Participants also connected with suppliers and logistics partners, offering insight into the full production and distribution chain from growers to retail.

The conference emphasized workforce development and knowledge transfer as key factors in supporting the future of greenhouse and floral production businesses.
