Oasis Grower Solutions, a division of Smithers-Oasis, has appointed Erin Yafuso as plant scientist, effective Oct. 1. In this newly created role, Yafuso will oversee global responsibilities and report directly to Vijay Rapaka, director of global grower operations and research.
Rapaka emphasized the importance of the new position for the company’s future. “This new position will play an important role as we continue to advance the science and development of innovative new substrates,” he said.
Yafuso’s work will focus on floriculture and hydroponic food crops, emphasizing sustainable solutions and specialty substrates. She will conduct plant science experiments and collaborate on new product development.
Yafuso holds a doctorate in horticultural sciences from the University of Florida and has previously worked as a postdoctoral research horticulturist with the USDA Agricultural Research Service.
