Oberland introduces organic BSFL frass for growers
Oberland Agriscience has introduced a new organic fertilizer and soil amendment, Oberland BSFL frass, derived from black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) farming.
The frass, a co-product of the insect farming process, contains organic matter and naturally occurring chitin, a compound shown to support plant immune responses and promote beneficial soil microbes. With a balanced 3-3-2 NPK ratio and slow-release properties, it is suitable for use in organic and conventional production systems.
Certified for organic use by OMRI in the U.S. and Ecocert in Canada, Oberland BSFL frass is intended for greenhouse growers, substrate blenders and distributors seeking sustainable nutrient inputs. According to the company, the product supports root development, nutrient uptake, soil structure, microbial activity and water retention.

“Restoring soil health and enhancing climate resilience are key to securing the future of agriculture,” said Greg Wanger, founder and CEO of Oberland Agriscience.
Greenhouse trials on tomatoes, lettuce and strawberries have shown positive results in both crop growth and soil performance. The frass is currently available in pellet form and is suitable for various applications including greenhouse operations, vineyards, orchards, turf, landscaping and home gardening.
