RISE (Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment) named Scott Herndon executive director, effective April 27, bringing more than 14 years of experience in advocacy, policy and coalition building to the specialty pesticide and fertilizer trade association.

Herndon most recently led U.S. government and industry affairs for Corteva Agriscience in Washington, D.C., and previously served as president of Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture. His background also includes roles as vice president and general counsel for the American Sugarbeet Growers Association and staff positions in the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives and Florida Senate.

Herndon earned a law degree from the University of Miami School of Law, an MBA from the University of Florida and a bachelor’s degree from Tulane University. He is admitted to the bar in Florida and the District of Columbia, as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Neil Cleveland, RISE governing board chair and executive search committee lead, said Herndon’s experience in advocacy and stakeholder engagement made him a strong fit for the organization’s next phase of leadership.

“Scott brings a broad understanding of the policy and regulatory landscape, along with a collaborative approach that will serve RISE and its members well,” Alexandra Dunn, president and CEO of CropLife America, said.

RISE said Herndon’s initial priorities include strengthening engagement with staff and members, leading a refresh of the association’s five-year strategic plan and expanding the organization’s advocacy efforts at all levels of government.
