Terra Nova Nurseries has introduced fragaria ‘Pretty, Tasty Ruby,’ a new ornamental-edible strawberry bred for retail performance and greenhouse production.

The variety features red blooms and produces clusters of edible red berries over an extended period. It is suited for full-sun gardens, hanging baskets and strawberry pots, and is positioned for growers seeking crossover crops that combine visual appeal with edible output.

Fragaria ‘PRETTY, TASTY Ruby’

‘Pretty, Tasty Ruby’ forms a fast, clumping plant with a mature size of about 10 inches tall and 14 inches wide. Flowers reach about 10 inches. The plant performs best in loose, well-draining, organically rich media and requires 1 to 2 inches of water per week. During greenhouse finishing, growers should allow the media to dry slightly between irrigations.

From a liner, the crop finishes in four to six weeks in a 4-inch pot and eight to 10 weeks in a 1-gallon container. The variety is rated for USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 9.

The plant also provides ecological value by attracting pollinators, making it suitable for mixed ornamental and edible programs.

Terra Nova has released a Plant Profile and Grower Recipe for the variety, outlining fertility, irrigation, growth habits and finishing guidelines for professional growers.
