The Plant Company expands greenhouse space
The Plant Company has expanded its greenhouse by 5 acres to meet the rising demand for Proven Winners leafjoy houseplants, doubling its annual output. This addition boosts the company’s capacity for growing popular products, including the leafjoy littles line and Terraform terrarium items and enhances labor efficiency by about 20%.
“With this new space, we can innovate and delight even more customers with a constant supply of premium houseplants,” said Jason vanWingerden, cofounder and CEO of The Plant Company.
The new greenhouse uses advanced technology to improve ergonomics and efficiency, featuring an automated transport system for handling plants, LED lighting optimized by growth stage, and IIVO climate control software that monitors growth conditions. Energy-saving additions include a PAR Perfect shade curtain, a recirculated irrigation system and CO2 injection from a high-efficiency boiler.
The Plant Company collaborated with GreenV group partners HT Verboom and Prins USA to design logistics that streamline operations. On Oct. 22, the company celebrated the expansion with a ribbon-cutting event attended by Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Matthew Lohr and other local officials.
