ThinkPlants Celebrates First Anniversary

Last July, ThinkPlants was launched as a new marketing initiative to represent exceptional perennial plants to the North American Nursery industry.

Founding partners Danziger and Syngenta Flowers North America, announced this initiative at Cultivate’18, and since then ThinkPlants has continued to expand and add participants.

Through this collaboration Danziger and Syngenta offer their respective perennial portfolios in the United States and Canada under the ThinkPlants initiative. Both companies are actively breeding new perennial lines and have new products being trialed by growers throughout North America.

Kapiteyn and Unex from Holland were the first companies to join the ThinkPlants family.  With these participants, the ThinkPlants offering of perennials went from URC and seed options to also offering bare root, bulbs and tubers.

With the addition of KiwiFlora genetics, ThinkPlants began to expand breeder relationships to New Zealand and have gained some exceptional dianthus genetics. KiwiFlora, a global plant variety management company out of New Zealand, will add the Dianthus ‘Scent From Heaven’ Series to the ThinkPlants lineup.

Most recently, ThinkPlants announced that Terra Nova Nurseries is joining the initiative. This addition broadens the perennial genus available via the ThinkPlants group and supplied as URC out of Danziger Guatemala. Terra Nova Nurseries’ breeding team has enriched the horticulture market with more than 1,000 varieties and 30+ national and international award-winning introductions.

ThinkPlants strives to offer growers an unrivaled commitment to breeding a diverse mix of improved plant genetics, with a healthy supply chain of top-quality URC, bareroot, liners, bulbs and seed. Each ThinkPlants participant brings expertise in plant breeding, supply chain and technical support. Together ThinkPlants centralizes a cooperative marketing and supply strategy.

“ThinkPlants is a creative and innovative collaboration, with strong partners offering the highest quality perennials, bulbs and more,” says Joey Wiseman, head of ThinkPlants. “Not only do we want to represent great genetics, but we work hard to focus on supply chain. We are committed to making perennial programs easier and more efficient for growers, brokers and retailers.”
