Vermont Senate Passes Legalization Bill

The state Senate passed legislation Friday that would establish a taxed and regulated market for cannabis sales in Vermont.

The legislation was approved a roll call vote of 23 to 5. The bill, S. 54, will now head to the House.

If enacted into law, the bill would establish the Cannabis Control Board as the state’s regulatory body for a legal marijuana market. Five types of licenses would be available, and cannabis sales would be taxed at 16 percent, plus a 2 percent local option tax.
