Westerlay Orchids expands team with new hires
Westerlay Orchids has appointed Jay Hathorn as key account manager and Desiree Escobar as administrative assistant for sales, strengthening the company’s customer service and operations team.
Based in Carpinteria, California, Westerlay is one of the state’s leading commercial orchid growers, supplying more than 4 million plants annually across the western U.S. and Canada.
Hathorn brings more than 30 years of horticulture sales experience. His career began in 1986 at El Modeno Gardens in Irvine. He later worked as national account manager for Lowe’s and managed key accounts at Corey Nursery. At Westerlay, he will oversee client relationships with major retailers including Albertsons/Safeway and Morgan Creek Tropicals.
“It’s an honor to join a company that values quality, sustainability and community, and I look forward to contributing to Westerlay’s growing success,” said Hathorn.
Escobar, with 25 years of experience in retail and operations management, will provide administrative support to the sales team. She previously worked as a grocery manager and held roles in bookkeeping and administration.
President Toine Overgaag said the new hires bring “experience and dedication to customer success” as Westerlay continues to expand.
Westerlay Orchids has been family-owned for three generations and emphasizes sustainability and innovation in its growing practices.
