Blackmore unveils gray Air Trays for recyclability
Blackmore Company has announced the launch of its new gray Air Trays, designed to improve recyclability in response to limitations with traditional black plastic products. The trays were introduced at Cultivate’25.
Unlike black trays, which often go undetected by optical sorters at recycling facilities due to carbon-black pigments, the gray Air Trays are produced without those pigments and are made from recycled plastics. This adjustment allows them to be identified and sorted by near-infrared (NIR) technology, helping to reduce landfill waste and support a more circular economy.

“Our goal is to maintain the same high-quality product while making a meaningful improvement in sustainability,” a company spokesperson said in the release.
The gray trays retain the structure and performance growers expect while offering an environmentally improved option for nurseries and greenhouse operations.
The new product is now available for order directly through Blackmore.
