The board provides strategic direction for national efforts to advance horticultural research and connect research outcomes with industry use, while supporting education, scholarships and leadership development.

Officer transitions effective January 2026 include Mark Yelanich of Metrolina Greenhouse as president, Ed Tankard of Tankard Nurseries as president-elect and Jonathan Berry of J Berry Nursery as immediate past president.

Ryan Overdevest of Overdevest Nurseries joined the executive committee, serving alongside treasurer Dan Batson of GreenForest Nursery, Jim Eason of Eason Horticultural Resources, development committee chair Harvey Cotten and John Rausch of Star Roses and Plants.

Matt Foertmeyer of Foertmeyer and Sons Greenhouse was appointed to a three-year term representing Region II. A second-generation grower, Foertmeyer is also the Greenhouse Community Connector coordinator for AmericanHort and a graduate of the HRI Leadership Academy.

Trustees reappointed to second three-year terms are Shane Brockshus, Mike Hiller, Matt Sawyer, Simon Traskey and Lloyd Traven.

Outgoing trustees Leigh Geschwill and Ed Bemis conclude their service in January 2026. Jennifer Gray, hri administrator, said, “Leigh has been a remarkable leader for HRI and a steadfast champion for research that strengthens the horticulture industry.”
