Metrolina Greenhouses and South Central Growers announced a strategic merger effective Jan. 1, 2026, combining two established greenhouse operations under the Metrolina Greenhouses brand.
Metrolina Greenhouses is based in Huntersville, North Carolina, with operations in York, S.C. South Central Growers is based in Springfield, Tenn. The companies said the merger is intended to support growth, expand operational capabilities and strengthen service to retail partners as the horticulture industry faces rising capital needs and operational complexity.
The combined organization will maintain continuity for customers, including existing customer teams, quality standards and day-to-day operations. Leadership said the merger will enable broader ship lanes, faster replenishment and expanded fulfillment options, including omnichannel retail models relevant to greenhouse growers supplying large retail programs.
“At its core, this merger is about growth,” said Abe VanWingerden, CEO of Metrolina Greenhouses. “Growth allows us to invest more, serve customers better, and create more opportunities for our people.”
South Central Growers’ ownership group will become shareholders in Metrolina Greenhouses, and its leadership team will remain active in operations and strategic planning. All employees from both companies will be integrated into the combined organization, with site leadership remaining in place.
The companies emphasized the merger is not driven by cost reductions but by scale, systems integration and long-term investment in people and production. Leadership roles were announced across operations, supply chain, labor, logistics and growing, with executives from both organizations represented.
