Metrolina Greenhouses donates $1 million to charities
Metrolina Greenhouses donated over $1 million to local charities and community initiatives in 2024. The contributions supported disaster relief, education and community development, reflecting the company’s commitment to its employees and surrounding communities.
Hurricane Helene relief received $100,000, assisting organizations like Samaritan’s Purse, Angels and Sparrows and the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project. These funds helped rebuild infrastructure and support affected residents.
Another $100,000 was allocated by the company’s Benevolent Fund and Community Outreach Committee to assist employees with personal challenges and provide volunteer support for local charities.
Metrolina also awarded $70,000 in scholarships to employees’ family members pursuing higher education.
In addition to financial support, Metrolina grew and shipped 100,000 poinsettias at no cost to a partner grower in Western North Carolina who suffered flood damage. “Everybody here helped with that in one way or another,” said co-CEO Art VanWingerden.
Co-CEO Abe VanWingerden praised employees, stating, “Their acts of kindness and resilience have been both moving and inspiring.”
The company remains committed to fostering a culture of giving and community support.
