The Experts Have Spoken… By Tim Hodson

The color experts have spoken and the Color of the Year for 2013 is (drum roll please) … EMERALD.

Pantone LLC, the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards, has selected Emerald (Pantone 17-5641) to succeed Tangerine Tango the 2012 Color of the Year (see news story below).

According to Pantone’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman, ““Green is the most abundant hue in nature “ the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum. Symbolically, emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world.”

“Described by Pantone as “a lively, radiant, lush green,” the 2013 Color of the Year is “a vivid, verdant green, [that] enhances our sense of well-being further by inspiring insight, as well as promoting balance and harmony.”

Pantone goes on to say that emerald is “the color of growth, renewal and prosperity” and can enhance an individual’s sense of well-being as “this jewel-like hue will create a luxurious feel” in the home.

Whew! The phraseology and descriptive words that Pantone uses to describe emerald makes it sound like it is a can’t-miss selection. The question is, How will it play at the garden center?” We will find out soon enough.
