Scholarship Fund Gets BoostSource: ANLA

The Carville M. Akehurst Memorial Scholarship Fund, which benefits horticulture students, received a $50,000 boost from the Mid-Atlantic Nursery Trade Show Inc. (MANTS).

The Horticulture Research Institute (HRI), the research division of the American Nursery & Landscape Association (ANLA), announced that the MANTS donation moved the scholarship fund from HRI’s $50,000 Silver Circle to the $100,000 Gold Circle. The donation was made during HRI’s summer reception in Washington D.C. in July.

The fund was established in 2002 by both groups with the belief that the future of the horticulture industry lies in the education of today’s students, according to an ANLA press release.

The scholarship memorializes Carville M. Akehurst, one of the founders of MANTS. For more information about HRI grant programs or to make a donation, contact Teresa Jodon at (202) 789-2900 or fax (202) 789-1893.
