Pansy

WonderFall pansies are vigorous plants that fill containers with fewer plants. Their spreading habit covers more in the landscape than regular pansies. New colors for 2013 are: White, Blue with Blotch, Yellow, Yellow with Blotch and Purple.

When transplanting, use one plug per 41/2-inch, quart, 6-inch and gallon pots; use three plugs per 10-inch basket; and use three to four plugs per 12- to 15-inch basket.

Maintain media pH at 5.5 to 5.8. Avoid EC levels about 1.5. Ideal lighting is 4,000 to 6,000 foot-candles. Recommended temperature is 64 to 70° F days and 55 to 62° F nights. After establishment, plants can be grown as low as 40° F, but production time will be significantly longer.

Alternate between wet and medium moisture levels. Fertilize with 14-4-14 or 17-5-17 at 125- to 150-ppm nitrogen and 8- to 12-ppm phosphorus. During cool weather production, ammonium-based feeds may encourage root rot problems. High nitrogen concentrations may promote stretching.
