Delosperma

The new Wheels of Wonder series offers an innovative color range. Bred by Koichiro Nishikawa of FlorSaika, there are six total varieties within the Wheels of Wonder series: ‘Orange Wonder’, ‘Violet Wonder’, ‘White Wonder’, ‘Golden Wonder’, ‘Fire Wonder’ and ‘Hot Pink Wonder’.

A versatile crop, they can be grown in patio containers, garden beds, hanging baskets and rock gardens. Wheels of Wonder delosperma is drought tolerant and flowers continuously. Flowers open during the day, and because of their large size they still give color when they close at night. Finished height is about 6 to 8 inches.

When compared to the popular Jewel of Desert series, Wheels of Wonder has flowers double the size and are more heat tolerant. They do not require vernalization to flower.

Wheels of Wonder prefers a pH level between 5.5 and 6.5 and EC level between 1.8 and 2.2. Plants take about 10 to 12 weeks to finish for a 72 cell to 1-gallon container, and eight to 10 weeks for a 162 cell to a 1-quart pot. Pinching is required to make a bushy plant.
