Congratulations or Condolences? By Tim Hodson

Congratulations Boston … um, I think. Or maybe we should be offering our condolences.

Thanks to a couple of inches of fresh snow on Saturday, the winter of 2014-15 is officially the snowiest on record in Boston.

As of 7 p.m. last night, 108.6 inches of snow have fallen, breaking the city’s old record of 107.9 inches that fell during the winter of 1995-96.

By now, I’m pretty sure everyone is ready to put this winter in the books and move on with their lives – especially the people in New England.

But now it is that time of year when Mother Nature really gets mercurial. In the Chicagoland area the temperatures are expected to hit the mid-70s sometime this afternoon. But tomorrow is another story. The predicted high on Tuesday afternoon is only 47° F. Temperatures like that make planning a bit difficult.

These types of temperature swings are kind of the norm for this time of year when, according to the calendar, Spring is “scheduled” to arrive later this week.

Whether or not spring weather actually arrives by Friday is still TBD!

Hopefully, the current version of Old Man Winter will finally retire this week for good and Spring will decide to stick around so gardeners can begin to head outdoors and start planting!

How’s the weather in your area? Are you done with winter? How’s your spring looking so far? Drop me a line at thodson@greatamericanpublish.com and let me know.
