Calibrachoa

The Hula calibrachoa series boasts hoops of color on large bicolor flowers. These exciting calibrachoa varieties perform well in stand-alone baskets as well as combination plantings.

Use a disease-free, well-aerated rooting medium with a pH of 5.2 to 5.5 and EC less than 1.5.

Temperature should be maintained at 65 to 75° F day and night. Bottom heat at 70 to 74° F will enhance and improve uniformity of rooting. Use a growing temperature of 55 to 70° F day and 55 to 60° F night. High temperatures cause excess stretching and weak growth.

During rooting, a light level of 1,500 to 2,000 foot-candles is best. As cuttings establish roots, gradually increase light level to 3,500 to 4,500 foot-candles.

Fertilize liners with 100-ppm nitrogen as soon as roots are visible. Fertilizer can be increased to 150- to 200-ppm nitrogen as roots develop. An acidifying fertilizer will help maintain a lower pH.  Chelated iron applications can be made, if needed, to improve green leaf color.
