Anybody on Your Radar? By Tim Hodson

For the past 16 years, GPN and Nexus Greenhouse Corp. have been recognizing outstanding college students with the GPN/Nexus Intern of the Year Scholarship.

Each year we get an outstanding crop of applicants — students that are doing amazing things in the class- room, in the greenhouse and in their personal lives. It is extremely rewarding to learn about these students and what they will have
to offer to our industry once they “turn pro!”

We are now calling for applicants for the 17th GPN/Nexus Intern of the Year.

Do you know a college student that has completed a horticulture-related internship this year? Did that student have a little something extra? Is that student now on your radar as a future hire for your company?

If the answer is “Yes” to any of these questions, then you need let that student know about this scholarship program.

The 2016 GPN/Nexus Intern of the Year will receive a check for $3,000; be featured in an article and on the cover of the January 2016 issue of GPN; receive travel and hotel expenses to Cultivate’16 in Columbus, Ohio, next July; as well as a full Cultivate’16 registration.

All application materials should be sent to thodson@greatamericanpublish.com. The deadline to apply is Oct. 21, 2015.

Just a Reminder

GPN’s Plant Health Management Conferences will be taking place next month in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Oct. 6, and in Springfield, Massachusetts on Oct. 27.

During the one-day conferences, attendees will have a chance to learn about the latest disease identification, integrated pest management and plant growth strategies for growing healthier and more profitable plants — and earn pesticide certification credits. There also will be tabletop displays from some of the industry’s leading suppliers. Turn to page 64 to learn more about the program and how you can register to attend.
