Not Your Everyday Tuesday By Tim Hodson

Did you know that tomorrow is Giving Tuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. It is always celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and helps kick off the charitable season, when many people focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

This year, the Horticultural Research Institute (HRI) will be participating in #GivingTuesday.

HRI is a part of the AmericanHort Foundation that “proudly supports scientific research and students for the advancement of the horticultural industry.”

#GivingTuesday gives our industry an important platform to help share the message of HRI — that the Institute is working every day to direct and fund needed research for our industry.

HRI is encouraging the horticulture industry to spread the word about the importance of HRI. By sharing your story (why you support HRI) on #GivingTuesday, you can influence others to do the same.

HRI has many successes to talk about including its strong research portfolio with over $1,000,000 distributed in grants over the last four years as well as $100,000 in scholarships.

You can share your support for HRI and help raise awareness on various social media pages (your personal pages or your business pages).

Just say why you support HRI, tag @HortResearch on Twitter and @HRIResearch on Facebook, and link to the HRI website at www.hriresearch.org.

HRI has created a one-page toolkit with details and sample messages growers can use (or you can share your own messages and images). Contact HRI at 614.487.1117 for more information.

There’s Still Time

You can still sign up for GPN’s free one-hour webinar on “Common Mistakes in Using PGRs and How to Prevent Them” that takes place tomorrow.  It will be presented by industry consultant Roger Styer of Styer’s Horticultural Consulting. The webinar will take place tomorrow at 2 p.m. EST.

The webinar is sponsored by Fine Americas.
