PanAmerican Seed  recently announced that a United States utility patent (US 10,285,362) was granted for its new Beacon impatiens.

Beacon’s patent is for having a unique form of disease resistance to Impatiens downy mildew.  It covers all six colors and two mixes of Beacon Impatiens walleriana. Additional patent applications are pending.

“Since its official debut earlier this year, the excitement around Beacon impatiens has been outstanding,” says Lisa Lacy, global product manager for PanAmerican Seed.. “Receiving this patent underscores confidence in this product, and we are proud to be able to bring such an important flower class back to market.”

Beacon launched at California Spring Trials in March. A limited supply of seed is available now, with full-scale global availability in January 2020.
