American Floral Endowment reports industry funding impact

The American Floral Endowment (AFE) released its 2025 program highlights, outlining funding support for research, education and workforce development across the floriculture and horticulture sectors.

American Floral Endowment logoAFE awarded more than $750,000 to 20 research projects in 2025, addressing priorities such as pest and disease management, post-production challenges and new technologies. These topics remain central for greenhouse growers facing increasing production pressures.

Student support continued through the organization’s scholarship and internship programs, with 40 students receiving more than $139,500 in funding. However, AFE reported that more than 120 applicants were unable to receive support this year due to limited resources.

Educational and organizational grants also contributed to industry development. Twenty-four organizations received over $100,000 in grants for training, new programs and young professional development. Five travel grants were awarded to retail florists pursuing continuing education.

AFE programs such as Sustainabloom and Grow Pro provided more than 20 free training webinars, covering sustainability, marketing and crop management topics relevant to growers. The Young Professionals Council surpassed 100 members as it continued offering networking and leadership opportunities.

The endowment noted growing demand for program support. Rising research costs left 14 projects unfunded, and 38 new proposals have already been submitted for 2026–2027 consideration.

AFE thanked its 2025 donors and announced a $25,000 matching gift opportunity available through December 31, allowing contributions to be matched two-to-one.
