Harts Nursery of Jefferson in Oregon recently launched a program to help get students involved in gardening and horticulture related activities.

Scott Kegerreis, national account manager for the company told GPN that Harts Nursery wanted to do its part to help promote exposure to gardening activities so employees from the company recently spent time with more than 4,500 elementary school students in April (National Gardening Month) doing basic photosynthesis, horticulture and flower education.

As part of the program, the students got to plant their own Summer Tropics tomato in a container brought from home or one provided by Harts. Containers from home ranged from old shoes to bird houses.

Kegerreis said Hart’s employees also got the chance to spend time with a group of middle school and high school students from Albany Options School. “We took that opportunity to highlight different careers that can be found through our industry.”
