Hurricane recovery efforts expand to include mental health support
In response to the devastation caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton across the southeastern U.S., AgriSafe is offering free FarmResponse training to professionals providing counseling services to agricultural communities affected by the storms. The training, listed in the Suicide Prevention Resource Best Practice registry, aims to help mental health providers support farmers and their families during the recovery process.
The hurricanes left widespread damage across states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia, with communication lines down and local systems overwhelmed. AgriSafe’s initiative prioritizes mental health care as an essential part of recovery.
“AgriSafe’s FarmResponse program equips health professionals to foster resilience and instill hope in agricultural communities,” said Tara Haskins, total farmer health director at AgriSafe.
