Wisconsin Lawmakers Introduce Medical Cannabis Bill

Lawmakers in Wisconsin have introduced legislation that would allow doctors to prescribe medical cannabis to patients. The bill has been introduced by Sens. Jon Erpenbach and Patrick Testin and Rep. Chris Taylor. It is the first bi-partisan medical cannabis legislation in 18 years, according to Sen. Testin.

“No one should be treated like a criminal for accessing the medicine they need,” Rep. Taylor said.

Gov. Tony Evers posted on Twitter in support of the bill’s introduction and cited a state-wide poll in which 83% of respondents said they support legalizing marijuana for medical purposes.

The bill faces opposition from Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald. He reportedly said in a statement to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that “everyone knows that medical marijuana leads to legalized marijuana.”
