CCFC Raises Sales MinimumSource: The California Cut Flower Commission

The California Cut Flower Commission (CCFC) will raise the minimum annual sales level of assessable cut flower growers from $300,000 to $500,000, effective January 1, 2005.

“This just makes economic sense,” says CCFC president Lee Murphy. “Growers are faced with many challenges, from increased foreign competition to higher costs for production. And since we are dedicated to helping all California growers, this should alleviate as least one concern for our smaller growers.”

Non-assessed growers will still benefit from the CCFC’s governmental relations and activities, including the promotion of California cut flowers, funding measures and involvement in research and education. Non-assessed growers are allowed to be members of any of the commission’s committees, though they cannot participate in Board elections or referendums.

The CCFC was voted into being by a referendum of cut flower growers in 1990. As of January 1, 2005, approximately 75 growers will qualify to pay assessments to the commission. Assessments are levied at the rate of .005 percent of sales of fresh cut flowers and cut greens.

The California Cut Flower Commission is a non-profit public corporation formed by and for growers, under the laws of the State of California. Its mission is to provide a united effort by growers to enhance the performance of the California cut flower and greens industry. For more information, visit www.ccfc.org.
