New England Greenhouse Conference and Expo Focuses on Education
With targeted and timely educational programs, the New England Greenhouse Conference and Expo offers industry professionals the opportunity stay informed on the latest developments impacting their businesses.
The event, slated for Nov. 5 to 7, 2008, is held on even-numbered years in Massachusetts for the region’s floriculture industry, both the production and retail sectors.
One of the highlights of this year’s event will be a presentation on orchid production by GPN contributor Dr. Erik Runkle of Michigan State University. With orchids’ recent rise in popularity, Runkle’s speech couldn’t be timelier.
Runkle will be speaking on Friday, Nov. 7, at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass., on “Advanced Forcing Techniques for Orchids.” His current research focuses on the flowering physiology of orchids, temperature and light effects on bedding plants, and the control growth and development of herbaceous perennials.
The New England Greenhouse Conference, in collaboration with the International Propagators Society, will also sponsor a special all-day “Advanced Plant Propagation” symposium on Wednesday, Nov. 5. The program is open to all attendees – no special registration required!
The symposium will feature in-depth seminars on all aspects of plant propagation, from seed propagation to disease and stock plant management, that growers encounter and will conclude with a robust Q & A session with five industry experts. For more detailed information, visit www.negreenhouse.org.
In addition, the 2009-2010 New England Greenhouse Floriculture Guide – a Management Guide for Insects, Diseases, Weeds and Growth Regulators, will also be available to conference attendees at a special price of $15 per copy. The updated guide, a compendium of up-to-date information about products that manage insects, mites, diseases, weeds and algae, and regulate plant growth, is a must-have manual for professional growers. All of the guide’s chemical recommendations are presented within the framework of sustainability.
