In addition to educational sessions packed with tips to increase plant health and crop productivity, SAF’s Pest and Production Management Conference is designed to give growers and greenhouse operators a chance to see what’s working for others firsthand. On Thursday, Feb. 24, attendees can opt for a tour of two successful Southern California growing operations.

The Society of American Florists 2011 Pest and Production Management Conference is set to take place Feb. 24 to 26 in San Diego, Calif.

In addition to educational sessions packed with tips to increase plant health and crop productivity, SAF’s Pest and Production Management Conference is designed to give growers and greenhouse operators a chance to see what’s working for others firsthand. On Thursday, Feb. 24, attendees can opt for a tour of two successful Southern California growing operations.

Altman Plants is the largest producer of cacti and succulents in the United States and provides plant programs to large retailers and independent nurseries nationwide. Its Vista, Calif. location is also home to the Center for Applied Horticultural Research, a non-profit organization committed to research designed to provide growers with practical answers to problems.

Mellano & Company, a third-generation family-owned floral business, arms some 400 acres in Southern California – producing more than seven million bunches of fresh flowers and foliage and shipping products worldwide from its growing operation in Oceanside. It is an industry leaders in quality control and was an early implementor of IPM and sustainable practices.
