Color Trends at Spring Trials
If there’s anything that I learned from attending the 2012 Spring Trials, it’s that breeders are making a statement with color. And judging by the abundance of fiery orange hues we saw along the California coast, Pantone the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards was right on with this year’s color of the year, Tangerine Tango. This sophisticated, yet dramatic, color is reminiscent of the shades of a sunset.
According to Pantone, orange has grown in popularity among designers and consumers alike. It’s a color that grabs and commands attention. So here are some of my favorite orange introductions from this year’s California Spring Trials. Their color is striking, and I think they’ll definitely make a statement at retail.
Begonia ‘Crackling Fire Orange’ (Suntory Collection)
Rose ‘Oso Easy Mango Salsa’ (Proven Winners)
Begonia ‘Arcada Apricot Bicolor’ (Ecke Ranch)
Anigozanthos ‘Kanga Orange’ (Green Fuse Botanicals)
Calibrachoa ‘MiniFamous Orange’ (Selecta)
Echinacea ‘Sombrero Hot Coral’ (Darwin Perennials)
Dahlia ‘Dahlinova Hypnotica Tequila Sunrise’ (Fides Oro)
Calibrachoa ‘Aloha Kona Mandarin’ (Dümmen)
Begonia ‘Santa Cruz Sunset’ (Benary)
Impatiens ‘Sun Harmony Deep Orange’ (Danziger)
Gerbera ‘Cartwheel Autumn Colors’ (Syngenta Flowers)
What do you think of these new gorgeous varieties? Will you be adding any of them to your lineup? Are there any other color trends you’re noticing at retail or with consumers? Let me know what you think. I’d love to hear from you. Shoot me an email at jdolce@greatamericanpublish.com
