Fuchsia

New Windchimes Upright fuchsia have been selected to create a unique component in mixed containers with an upright, branched habit that is tolerant of high light and warmer temperatures.

Use a well-drained soil mix with a pH range of 6.0 to 6.5. Keep evenly moist, not wet. Feed with a balanced feed at 100- to 200-ppm nitrogen on a constant basis. Proper EC level for a soilless mix is 0.75 to 1.0. Maintain temperature at 70 to 80° F days and 62 to 68° F nights.

Rooted liners should be pinched before transplant, at approximately three to four weeks after sticking unrooted cuttings. An additional pinch at four weeks after transplant is suggested for finishing larger containers since this will encourage a fuller plant.

Under warm, low light conditions, B-Nine (daminozide) applied at 1,250 to 2,500 ppm is effective at controlling stretch. In warm temperature regions, Bonzi (paclobutrazol) drenches at 2 to 3 ppm is highly effective.

Fuchsia are susceptible to crown rot (Rhizoctonia). When transplanting rooted cells, be cautious not to plant liner below existing soil of liner. Damage to stem will create entry for disease pathogens.
