Petunia

Known for its large vibrant flowers and superior outdoor performance, SuperCal is the ideal combination of petunia and calibrachoa. SuperCal is early blooming, pH tolerant and ideal for cold-frame/low-energy production. For the retailer, non-sticky foliage provides a cleaner look and crisp flowers provide high sell through. Plant one rooted cutting per 4- or 6-inch pot. For 12-inch hanging baskets, plant three per basket for fast cropping. Optimum pH range is between 5.5 and 6.0. Avoid excessive irrigation when the plants are young. Delay feeding until roots are well established and then begin feeding with a complete, balanced fertilizer at 250- to 350-ppm nitrogen constant liquid feed. Provide a complete minor element program.SuperCals can be grown cool to save energy at a minimum night temperature of 55° F. However, expect a delay in flowering of seven to 10 days compared to growing warmer at 60° F.Bright light is ideal for this crop. Provide a minimum of 4,000 foot-candles. SuperCal is less sensitive to day length than most petunias but flowers quicker under high light and long day conditions. The use of supplemental light is beneficial for early spring flowering, especially in low light areas.
