Time to Go Back to School By Tim Hodson

As summer winds down and students return to school for the fall semester, now is also a good time for you to break out your pencils and notebooks for a couple of upcoming educational webinars.

This week, Charlie Hall at Texas A&M University will present a webinar on his Mid-Year Economic Outlook. And in September, GPN will launch its 2017 series of Plant Health Management webinars to help growers produce healthy and profitable plants.

Hall’s free webinar will take place Aug. 29, at 11 a.m. CDT. During the webinar, he will look at the sectors in the economy that have a direct impact on grower, landscape service provider and retail sales.

Hall also will hone in on some key dates that will be important to look out for this year and he will suggest a dashboard of indicators that all green industry firms should be tracking to better monitor the economic environment.

Charlie Hall is a professor in the Department of Horticultural Sciences at Texas A&M University and is the Ellison Chair in International Floriculture.

You can register for the webinar at attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/6437084612621397250

Hall also will be one of the featured presenters at this year’s Big Grower Executive Summit that will take place in October. Click here to learn more about Hall’s presentation and the rest of the 2017 Big Grower Executive Summit program.

GPN’s Plant Health Management Webinar Series

As I mentioned in GPN Weekly last Monday, next month we will kick off our 2017 series of Plant Health Management webinars.

Registration is now open for the first webinar, “Helping Growers Identify, Correct and Prevent Common Disease Problems in Ornamentals,” which will take place Sept. 26. It will be presented by industry consultant Roger Styer. The one-hour, free webinar is scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT and is sponsored by Nufarm.

Styer is the president of Styer’s Horticultural Consulting. He has been helping growers across North America be more successful with all aspects of growing ornamentals for more than 30 years.

You can register for this webinar today by clicking here.

We are also planning webinars on greenhouse pest management and using PGRs for later this fall. Be on the lookout for more information on these webinars.

It’s not just back to school time for the kids, now is a great time for you to enhance your education too.
