Researchers Examine Impact of Nitrogen on Plant Health
Earlier this year, researchers at the University of Connecticut released a paper on how nitrogen can impact a plant’s performance.
The paper, “N is for Plant Health,” was written by Rosa Raudales and Juan Cabrera.
In the paper the Raudales and Cabrera discuss the chemical properties of nitrogen and how growers can use it to manage medium pH and prevent root diseases.
Because plants take up nitrogen at a larger quantity than any other mineral element, it has a large effect on plant quality and medium-pH.
The paper was published as an e-GRO (Electronic Grower Resources Online) Alert. e-GRO is a collaborative effort of floriculture specialists that serve as a clearing house for alerts about disease, insect, environmental, physiological and nutritional disorders being observed in commercial greenhouses.
Raudales is an assistant professor and Cabrera is a Ph.D student at the University of Connecticut.
