And the Color of the Year for 2019 is …. By Tim Hodson

Last week, the color experts at Pantone declared that the color of the year for 2019 would be Living Coral. The official name is PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral.

Pantone described its selection as “an animating and life-affirming shade of orange with a golden undertone … Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.”

As you can see, Pantone takes its colors seriously and a lot of thought goes into its Color of the Year selection.

Pantone goes on to say Living Coral is “sociable and spirited” and has an engaging nature that “welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity … and embodies our desire for playful expression.”

“With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial Pantone Living Coral hit a responsive chord,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

“Color enhances and influences the way we experience life,” added Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute. “As a shade that affirms life through a dual role of energizing and nourishing, Living Coral reinforces how colors can embody our collective experience and reflect what is taking place in our global culture at a moment in time.”

Living Coral should be well received by our industry. There are many different varieties out on the market that represent this color scheme. When the announcement was made last Thursday, many of the breeding companies took to social media to let people know how the color was represented in their product lines.

Will you take advantage of Pantone’s proclamation and promote your coral colored plants as the Color of the Year in 2019?
