J. Berry Nursery Ends Hollywood Hibiscus Container Requirements

With ongoing supply-chain issues experienced by the horticulture industry, J. Berry Nursery announces the discontinuation of the company’s branded container requirements for its Hollywood Hibiscus tropical hibiscus brand.

Effective immediately, J. Berry Nursery no longer requires branded containers as part of the Hollywood Hibiscus production program. When purchasing young plants, producers do not need to buy Hollywood Hibiscus branded pots. One- and two-gallon Hollywood Hibiscus pots continue to be manufactured by Nursery Supplies, but 1-quart and 2.5-quart containers will no longer be stocked.

“Our industry faced incredible supply-chain issues beginning in 2020, and we’re still experiencing unprecedented delays securing materials,” says Jesse Hensen, global supply chain manager for J. Berry Nursery. “While our branded containers command retail customers’ attention and provide excellent merchandising potential of our premier hibiscus genetics, we also understand the challenges faced by our young plant producers and brokers. We want to ease the production process for them by eliminating the need to secure branded containers, so they can focus their time and effort on producing beautiful plants.”

Hensen encourages producers to continue to use 1- and 2-gallon containers as available, noting retail customers’ recognition of the Hollywood Hibiscus brand, driven by marketing efforts that highlight the premier genetics. “While many tropical hibiscus are produced in standard, black pots, retailers benefit from the name-recognition of the Hollywood Hibiscus brand,” says Hensen. “With our strong social media presence and avid fan base, the Hollywood Hibiscus name and branded containers provide value-added marketing for our retail sellers, and we hope our producers can continue to use the larger branded pots. But overall, we want to make life a little easier on our production partners, as we know that supply-chain issues are frustrating for everyone.”

One- and two-gallon branded containers can be purchased from Nursery Supplies, their affiliates, or J. Berry Nursery, according to Hensen.

Hollywood Hibiscus products are available through J. Berry Nursery online in spring, and customers will continue to find the brand at their favorite retail locations, such as Lowe’s, The Home Depot, and independent garden centers. Customers can use a zip code locator to find where J. Berry plants are carried locally.
