Danziger announces visitor top picks from CAST

Visitors to Danziger’s California Spring Trials (CAST) display were treated to bold colors and eye-catching combinations. The celebration of breeding in tune with nature also offered visitors their first in-person look at Floresta, Danziger’s foliage program.

“One of the great things about CAST is the feedback we receive from visitors,” says Lisa Heredia, marketing and key accounts for Danziger North America. “It is exciting to learn what other experts in our industry believe will be the top crops and trending colors for upcoming seasons. This year we heard loud and clear that our customers need more combo options.” The company displayed nearly 100 experimental DuraBella combinations set to be chosen as 2025 introductions. Because of the need, several will now be available for the 2024 season.

Here’s a look at the top varieties and DuraBella combinations as chosen by this year’s visitors.

Petunia ‘Amazonas Plum Cockatoo’

Plum Cockatoo had heads turning at CAST. This unique petunia pairs lush, green hues with vivid, tropical purples to create eye-catching blooms. It brings a bit of the rainforest to gardens everywhere, creating a calming backdrop of natural color that pairs well with foliage plants in the garden.

Calibrachoa ‘Colibri Tangerine’

Tangerine adds a punch of vivid citrus color to any container or garden space. The deep orange blooms are exceptionally striking. Colibri is an early flowering, controlled growth series that requires very little PGRs, making it the perfect choice for small pot production and tidy hanging baskets.

Bidens ‘Blazing Star’

Danziger’s new generation of bidens brings bright color and loads of blooms to the category. ‘Blazing Star’ features bicolor deep orange blossoms that are outlined with bold yellow. These mid-sized, early flowering bidens are well branched and require little to no PGRs. They’re outstanding additions to landscapes, containers and combinations.

A sample of the top DuraBella combos for 2024 included Eye Candy, Chalk Art and Pop Culture.
