Agmatix and BASF partner on soybean pest detection

Agmatix and BASF have announced a collaboration to develop a digital tool for detecting and predicting soybean cyst nematode (SCN), a major pest affecting soybean yields. The initiative, launched through BASF’s AgroStart platform, aims to provide real-time insights to growers.

At the core of the project is Axiom, an AI technology engine developed by Agmatix, which processes large agronomic datasets to create a machine-learning model with improved accuracy in identifying SCN infestations.

“The most critical element in any AI model is the quality of the data driving it,” said Shai Sela, chief scientist at Agmatix. “By harmonizing and enriching SCN field trial data through our platform, we can ensure consistent, reliable outputs —regardless of region, soil type or cropping conditions.”

The digital tool will integrate with existing farm management practices, providing near real-time SCN risk assessments. BASF’s expertise in seed and crop protection will complement Agmatix’s AI-driven platform to develop a scalable and user-friendly model.

Traditional SCN detection methods, such as soil sampling, can be labor-intensive and are not widely adopted. SCN causes an estimated $1.5 billion in annual yield losses in the United States. The new digital tool aims to give growers a proactive approach to managing the pest before damage occurs.

Agmatix and BASF’s collaboration signals a step forward in integrating AI-driven analytics with pest management, offering soybean growers a data-backed solution to mitigate SCN-related yield losses.
