De Vroomen supplies tulips for chicago display
De Vroomen Garden Products will supply 15,000 tulip bulbs for Chicago’s 2025 Magnificent Mile Tulip Display, continuing a partnership with The Magnificent Mile Association and expanding on last year’s planting.
The tulip variety, known as The Magnificent Mile Tulip or “Chicago’s Hometown Bloom,” features yellow petals with tangerine and red accents and is bred to withstand the city’s spring winds. It was first introduced in 2024 with a trial planting of 4,000 bulbs at 625 North Michigan Avenue and quickly gained popularity among residents and tourists.
In April 2024, the tulip was ceremonially named by Bart Twaalfhoven, consul general of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, strengthening cultural ties and marking a milestone in De Vroomen’s century-long horticultural history.
“De Vroomen is honored to contribute to the time-honored legacy of Chicago’s annual tulip installation,” said Joris Philippo, head of De Vroomen’s Dutch office.
The 2025 display results from a multi-year planning process with Clarence Davids & Co. of Plainfield, Illinois. Bulbs were planted in fall 2023, with flower tops trimmed in April 2024 to promote healthy development. The bloom is expected to begin mid-April 2025 and continue through the spring season.
The tulip is also featured in De Vroomen’s Spring 2025 Wholesale Grower Catalog, available online. Consumers can purchase the variety through Chalet, the official retail partner of The Magnificent Mile Association.
