EPA registers Syngenta Vykenda for ornamental growers

Syngenta has received federal registration from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for Vykenda insecticide-miticide for use in ornamental production, the company announced Dec. 19, 2025.

Vykenda introduces a new class of chemistry for the ornamental market, classified as IRAC Group 30. The product works through contact and ingestion to stop insect feeding and provide residual control. Target pests include mites, thrips, black vine weevil adults and red-headed flea beetles, which are common challenges in greenhouse and nursery operations.

The insecticide can be applied to all ornamental crops, including edible crops such as fruit and nut trees, vines, small fruits and vegetable transplants grown for retail sale. Syngenta said the product is designed to support resistance management programs when rotated with other insecticides.

“After more than 10 years of research and development, we are very excited to bring a completely new active ingredient and new class of chemistry to the ornamental market,” said Laurie Riggs, insecticide brand manager at Syngenta.

Syngenta noted that Vykenda can be rotated with Mainspring GNL insecticide to help control both larval and adult insect stages across a broad spectrum of pests.

The company expects Vykenda to be available to growers in the first quarter of 2026. Information on state registrations, product labeling and trial data will be released as registrations are completed.
