Lucanne acquires heliconia breeding program from Dümmen Orange
Lucanne B.V. has acquired Dümmen Orange’s Heliconia breeding program, securing all rights and interests in its development. The agreement, signed by Lucanne owner Perry Wismans, aims to expand the product line globally.
The breeding program focuses on compact growth, early flowering and improved performance in cooler conditions, making Heliconia more accessible for greenhouse growers and gardeners.
Tosca Ferber, chief technology officer at Dümmen Orange, expressed confidence in the transition. “We have more than ten years of breeding efforts in this crop and it’s rewarding to see this effort continues. I have no doubt that this product has a fantastic future under Perry’s commercial leadership.”
Lucanne plans to commercialize the Heliconia varieties worldwide, with starter material available through tissue culture for both commercial introductions and test varieties.
Lucanne specializes in connecting breeders, growers and retailers to bring innovative plant products to market. The company focuses on brand development, supply chain optimization and retail strategy to ensure commercial success
