Profile Growing Solutions has introduced two new growing media designed for hydroponic food production: HydraFiber Hydroponic Substrate + ProfileCoir slabs and 100% ProfileCoir slabs. Both options are highly compressed to reduce shipping and storage costs, offering a more cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional substrates like Rockwool.
The HydraFiber + Coir slabs combine engineered fiber with premium coconut coir to enhance rooting, oxygen availability and water efficiency. According to the company, this blend provides up to 36.6% more water delivery to plants while simplifying production with lower electrical conductivity and reduced potassium levels.
ProfileCoir slabs are made entirely from high-grade coconut coir, processed to achieve a stable pH of 5.5 to 6.0 and low salt content. The slabs are produced in a controlled facility to ensure consistency and quality.
“Our new hydroponic slabs utilize premium substrates that have been proven to enhance growth and maximize yield for a variety of food crops, including strawberries, peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers,” said senior vice president of innovation Michael Robeson.
Both slab products support environmentally conscious practices, as they can be recycled or reused to minimize waste and environmental impact.
These new solutions are designed to meet the increasing demand in hydroponic food production and offer growers more control over plant health and resource use.
