Régis Berger receives industry award
During the Annual General Meeting of the New Brunswick Peat Producers Association (NBPPA), which took place on Thursday, April 14 2023, Mr. Régis Berger was awarded the NBPPA Medal of Honor.
The purpose of this distinction is to recognize individuals who have demonstrated a high level of excellence and outstanding realizations to the peat industry and who contributed, with their actions, to the overall well-being of the Province of New Brunswick on a social, cultural and economic level.
“This prestigious award fills me with both gratitude and humility, especially now that we are celebrating the 60 th anniversary of Berger”, said Mr. Berger. “I would like to share this medal with Claudin, my brother and long-time partner, as well as with the whole Berger family.”
Having worked in the company since the age of 11 with his mother – and founder of Berger, Ms. Huguette Théberge – Régis Berger represents the second generation at the helm of the family business, from 1980 to 2015, along with his brother Claudin.
Under their leadership, Berger innovated by introducing value-added products, exporting to other countries and paving the way for various innovations that were meant to change the face of the peat industry. Amongst these innovations are: the development of devices, technologies and procedures, the deployment of the Skyscraper, the creation of the different grades of peat moss as well as the innovative management of harvesting sites.
“It is very gratifying and comforting to see such a modern company built on various equipment and technologies that I personally developed with my team, for some years now”, added Mr. Berger.
Berger is a third-generation family business, currently managed by Valérie
and Mélissa Berger, that operates 11 harvesting sites, 9 production plants in
North America and that employs more than 800 professionals dedicated to
selecting and processing raw materials in order to produce horticultural
growing media in an environmentally and responsible way.
