Seed Your Future releases 2025 career lessons

Seed Your Future has released its 2025 Cross-Curricular Career Lessons, offering free classroom resources that help middle and high school teachers connect core subjects to real careers in horticulture. The materials are available on the organization’s website.

The lessons introduce students to the business, science and logistics behind plant production and distribution. Topics include sustainability, wholesale operations and math-based skills such as pricing and supply chain calculations. The program is designed to show students how academic subjects support careers in growing, floral design, supply chain management and other sectors across the industry.

“Teachers are the gateway to career awareness,” said Jazmin Albarran, executive director of Seed Your Future. She said the lessons can help educators show students that horticulture spans science, technology, business, art and communication.

A featured addition for 2025 is “Help Derrick Rose Get His Roses,” an interdisciplinary activity for grades 6–12. Students analyze global flower sourcing, evaluate economic and environmental factors and recommend products for a fictional floral shop. The project highlights the range of skills and career roles involved in moving flowers from farms to local retailers.

Seed Your Future noted that the materials also support university horticulture departments conducting outreach to grade 6 to 12 students, as well as industry groups preparing for Spring Green Career Week set for March 2–6, 2026.

All lessons are available for free download. The organization will also host its 2026 Seed to STEM educator program June 14–18 at Longwood Gardens.
