Spanish-language horticulture training expands for growers
AmericanHort has launched a new initiative to provide Spanish-language training for greenhouse and nursery workers, expanding educational access to the horticulture industry’s bilingual workforce.
The first series of Spanish-language sessions includes foundational training in greenhouse and nursery operations. These sessions are available now through the AmericanHort online library, with more being added throughout the year.
In addition to on-demand learning, Cultivate’25 will feature live sessions in Spanish. The Cultivate On-Demand Education Pass will also offer 14 Spanish sessions after the event.
The new educational content has been translated and reviewed by fluent professionals with horticulture and scientific communication experience, ensuring accuracy and industry relevance.
“We’re committed to meeting the needs of today’s green industry workforce — and that means offering quality education in Spanish,” said Ken Fisher, president and CEO at AmericanHort.
Later this year, AmericanHort plans to release a flexible, online training program offering skill-specific modules in English and Spanish. Participants will be able to earn microcredentials for completed modules.
Alfredo Rios, plant health manager at Loma Vista Nursery, emphasized the value of the initiative. “The Spanish-language content gave my team a sense of belonging to the industry. They felt included, not just by aligning with our company’s messaging, but by understanding best practices across the industry.”
This initiative aims to help greenhouse and nursery employers train a more inclusive and skilled workforce.
