Viola

Bred for better branching and minimal stretch for more flowers, new Admire violas feature uniform timing across the series. They have early and consistent pack performance and perform well in both fall and spring.

Finished crops will be ready in four to five weeks using a 288 tray. Maintain media pH at 5.5 to 5.8 and EC at 1.25 to 1.5. Alternate between moisture levels wet and medium.

Recommended temperature is 68 to 70° F nights and 64 to 67° F days for the first 14 days or until roots reach bottom of container. Temperatures can then be lowered to 62 to 65° F days and nights. An average daily temperature of 67° F will give the fastest finished crop.

Fertilize with a calcium-based feed (14-4-14, 15-5-15 or 17-5-15) at 100 to 150 ppm as needed. Keeping the EC below 1.5 will help prevent root problems. Provide 4,000 to 6,000 foot-candles.

Common diseases are Botrytis, Alternaria leaf spot, downy mildew, Thielaviopsis root rot and Cercospora leaf spot. Common pests are aphids and thrips.
