Free Pest Management Webinar to Take Place This Week
The clock is ticking to participate in the live version of GPN’s latest Plant Health Management webinar.*
On Wednesday, Roger Styer will present a free, one-hour webinar on “Best Management Practices for Pest Control in Ornamentals.”
Roger is an industry veteran who operates his own independent consulting company helping growers be more successful with all aspects of growing ornamentals.
The webinar is set to take place at 2 p.m. EDT.
Roger will cover what goes into a solid pest control program for any type of greenhouse pest you may have. Some of the topics he will address include sanitation, scouting and monitoring and knowing how to recognize what pests you have.
He also will cover resistance issues and phytotoxicity problems and address what growers need to know when it comes to rotations, how to properly read labels and how long to store pest management products.
Finally, the use of biocontrols is becoming more prevalent, but growers need to know the chemical compatibility of pesticides used on any biocontrols on their crops.
You can register for the webinar by clicking here.
RIP Paul Thomas
Last week, I received news that Paul Thomas, professor emeritus and extension specialist at the University of Georgia, had died unexpectedly while traveling in Delaware.
Thomas had only recently retired from UGA and had accepted a position as academic ambassador with the American Floral Endowment.
Thomas was a staunch advocate for his students and our industry. His letters of recommendation for GPN/Nexus Intern of the Year candidates were always eloquent, candid and refreshing. He was extremely proud of all of his current and former students and, especially, UGA grad Gray Simpson when he was named the 2017 GPN/Nexus Intern of the Year.
The University of Georgia has created a scholarship in Thomas’ name. Click here to learn more about the Paul Thomas Floriculture Scholarship Endowment.
*If you can’t make it on Wednesday afternoon, Roger’s presentation will be archived on www.gpnmag.com next week.
