California Summer Trials Sneak Peek – Part 5 By Jasmina Dolce

The final countdown is here! The California Summer Trials begins in just six days … are you ready?

I feel like I have completely forgotten how to travel. What do I pack? Did I book all my hotels? Where’s my camera?

I’m sure I’m not alone. Thankfully, we’ve gathered the exhibitor information and put it all together to help attendees map out their routes. Click here for an exhibitor listing, along with addresses and contact information.

Over the past several weeks, I’ve been sharing sneak peeks into some of the new introductions that will be unveiled along the coast during California Summer Trials. Below is your final sneak peek, and if you’ve missed any of the previous ones, here are links to those as well:

And for those of you that are unable to attend, we’ve put together an exciting new event that you can participate in from the comfort of your home. GPN’s first-ever New Varieties Week begins June 29 and will feature 60-minute webcasts from Benary, Proven Winners, Westhoff, Dümmen Orange, PanAmerican Seed, Ball FloraPlant, Selecta One and Suntory Flowers. Bidens Brazen
Syngenta Flowers

Syngenta Flowers bidens

Brazen is a new collection of both vigorous and compact varieties that create bold options for combinations. Their striking colors and unique, clear flower patterns brighten up retail programs and gardens. In mixed combos or on their own, bees and butterflies love them. ‘Brazen Rising Sun’ is pictured.

Petunia E3 Easy Wave
PanAmerican Seed

Wave petunia

E3 is Early, Efficient and the Evolution of Easy Wave. This new series flowers at 10 hours of daylength, so it is ready to kick off spreading petunia sales even earlier at retail. It has a manageable, uniform shape and vigor, and offers a simple production to save on labor costs.

Dahlia ‘LaBella Gigante Fun Pink’
Beekenkamp

LaBella dahlia

This new dahlia just keeps on flowering, delivering great garden performance. It features a vigorous habit and incredible sturdy stems below large bicolored flowers. The name says it all; Gigante Fun Pink is ginormous and ideal for the 10-inch pot or larger.

Lamium ‘Orchid Frost Grande’
Plant Haven

Plant Haven lamium

‘Orchid Frost Grande’ is the big brother to ‘Orchid Frost’ boasting elegant silver foliage with a dark green base color, which creates a lovely backdrop for the delicate, orchid-pink flowers. This cultivar appears to be more resistant to foliar diseases than other varieties. It is Zone 4 hardy.

Echibeckia ‘Summerina Sunbeat’
Pacific Plug & Liner

Summerina echibeckia

Sunbeat is the newest selection in the Summerina series. It is tall and fills the pot, working best in larger pots such as 1.5 to 2 gallon. The flowers are smaller than others in the series, but Sunbeat makes up for that with loads of flowers. Flower color is bright yellow with a red eye.

Cyclamen Leopardo
Schoneveld Breeding

Cyclamen

Many years of breeding work have resulted in the fast and early-flowering Leopardo series, which does not suffer from heat delay. Plants have large flowers, a short production time, uniform growth and a long shelf life. Leopardo is best in 5- to 6-inch pots.
