Reps Introduce Eat Healthy America ActSource: ANLA

On March 20, 2007, Representatives Dennis Cardoza (D-Calif.), Randy Kuhl (R-N.Y.), John Salazar (D-Colo.), Adam Putnam (R-Fla.), Rick Larson (D-Wash.) and Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) introduced the Equitable Agriculture Today for a Healthy America Act (Eat Healthy America Act). The American Nursery and Landscape Association is a member of the Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance and has endorsed this bill as a proactive step for ensuring that specialty crop policy priorities are included in the 2007 Farm Bill.

The Eat Healthy Act, a comprehensive bill geared towards the specialty crop industry, addresses many important issues that provide a pathway for the specialty crop industry to be competitive in an increasingly global marketplace. Some of the major issues addressed in the Eat Healthy America Act include increasing access to valuable export markets, investing in research priorities for specialty crops and increasing research funding to assist in the prevention of invasive plant pests and disease.
