Syngenta Scholarship Program Recognizes Academic Achievement
Calling all horticulture students! Syngenta has announced the creation of two new scholarships that recognize academic achievement in plant breeding and floriculture business – the Glenn Goldsmith Breeding Excellence Scholarship and the Goldsmith Seeds Floriculture Business Advancement Scholarship.Syngenta recently announced the creation of two new scholarships that recognize academic achievement in plant breeding and floriculture business – the Glenn Goldsmith Breeding Excellence Scholarship and the Goldsmith Seeds Floriculture Business Advancement Scholarship.
This summer the company will award a $7,500 scholarship to one student (undergraduate or graduate) working toward a degree in plant breeding and a $7,500 scholarship to a student (undergraduate or graduate) pursuing a degree in ornamental horticulture business.
The scholarship competition is open to students pursuing an undergraduate or MS/PhD degree that are enrolled at an accredited four-year university during the 2011 and 2012 academic years with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
To enter, the student must submit a cover letter detailing:
- The scholarship for which the student wishes to be considered
- The name of the university the student is attending
- The degree the applicant is working on with the target graduation date
- A letter of recommendation on university letterhead from his/her academic advisor or professor.
All applicants also must submit a minimum 1,000-word essay on Syngenta’s mission statement, “Bringing Plant Potential to Life.” In the essay, applicants must describe what this statement means to them in relation to their career path.

All scholarship applications will be judged by a panel of horticulture industry professionals.
The deadline for submitting applications is June 15, 2011.
The winning scholarship applicants will be notified by June 30 and announced to the public at OFA Short Course in Columbus, Ohio, this July.
